We’ve been fortunate to be getting a lot of great coverage of the conservation work being completed in the Upper Salmon over the past little while & were thrilled to see yet another great story pop up on Facebook last night courtesy of Life on the Range. Ever heard of them? It’s an educational project sponsored by the Idaho Rangeland Resource Commission to showcase stories about our friends & neighbors around the state of Idaho & the great things they’re doing when it comes to ranching, land management & conservation. Still not ringing a bell? Ever seen this before?
If you’re an Idaho resident, I can guarantee you have. Known as “range plates”, the Idaho Rangeland Resource Commission is the group behind this specialty plate that can be seen all across the state. They’re a state agency that’s dedicated to “sustaining and enhancing Idaho’s rangelands and ranching heritage through public education” & they’re able to do just that via Life on the Range.
The Life on the Range feature we’re most excited about today covers one of my favorite parts of Idaho–the Pahsimeroi Valley & the great work being accomplished there by rancher Tom Page. His work is benefiting a variety of species including sage grouse, antelope and Chinook salmon. The Pages are working with a variety of groups including The Nature Conservancy, Natural Resources Conservation Service & LRLT to accomplish these goals. We hope you’ll take a few minutes to visit their website to learn more about the great things happening in the Pahsimeroi. (P.S.–you can also find out a bit about one of our projects that’s on the docket for 2015!)
