Last week for National Agriculture Week, LRLT got to visit with Salmon’s kindergarten and fifth grade classes to talk about the importance of agriculture. The kindergarten classes learned about the different parts of the plant and then we built our own plants out of vegetables and learned that you really can eat the entire plant! Fifth graders took a field trip to the University of Idaho’s Nancy M. Cummings Research, Extension and Education Center in Carmen, and together with University of Idaho beef specialist, Dr. Benton Glaze, & Cummings Center intern, Charly Seal, we to talked to the kids about genetics & DNA & then all the students had a chance to extract DNA from strawberries!
